Why Do you need Medicare Supplement Insurance

  1. Medicare doesn't pay for all your hospital or medical expenses.
  2. Medicare requires that you pay deductibles and co-payments, and it won't pay for amounts that exceed Medicare allowable charges.
  3. Supplemental insurance can help protect your assets in the event of a prolonged illness or a severe injury.

Insurance Plans Information

  1. There are 10 standardized plans to choose from, each varying in the extent of coverage it provides.
  2. All 10 plans cover Medicare co-payments for hospital and medical care. In addition to these basic benefits, some of the plans cover the Part A and B deductibles, Skilled Nursing Care co-payments, Part B excess charges, Prescription Drugs, At Home Care and Preventive Care. You choose the Plan that best meets your personal needs.
  3. If you are age 65 or older and or enrolled in Medicare Parts A & B, you may enroll in one of the insurance plans available in Tennessee
  4. Your spouse may also enroll provided he or she can meet the same eligibility requirements. If you are not eligible for Medicare, your Medicare-enrolled spouse may still participate.
What is a Medicare supplement (Medigap policy) ?

A Medicare supplement is a policy that is sold by various insurance companies to cover some of the costs that Medicare does not pay. Medicare covers medically related goods and services up to 80% of the costs that they assign. So, if you are enrolled in an Original Medicare plan and have a standardized Medicare supplement, Medicare will pick up its share and your Medicare supplement will pay the balance or a specified amount based on the Medicare supplement plan you have selected.

Seniors ( age 65+) have the option of 10 standardized Medigap policies. These policies are standardized( meaning the benefits are the same regardless of the company you select). i.e. a plan F has the same benefits regardless if your plan is with BlueCross BlueShield or Mutual of Omaha. This makes comparing plans much easier.
